Reading Update!

Hello Friends!

I have read 3 new books lately.  One is a book called Self-Love by Robert Schueller, another called Backbone: The Power of Saying No, and the last is a Classic book by Napoleon Hill.

I should have the blog post up on these new books by sunday.  They were amazing, especially the Napoleon Hill one!

I am so glad I get to use this december to create a head start towards reading a book a day in 2013.  This will be very challenging but I believe the rewards will be beyond even my current imagination.

Here is a sample of some of the things I have noticed since starting to voraciously read!

  • I don't have time to worry!  By filling in my idle time with books, it really changes my thought patterns.
  • My perception of the world is changing and expanding!  I think when I don't read, my thoughts get locked into a rut of repetively thinking the same old thoughts over and over again.  It seems that when I pick up a book, I can think through another's thoughts!  It really breaks my patterns and get me THINKING again consciously!  I can see how as I continue to read, it will be like the Matrix Movie - a whole new world shall open up to me - reality!
  • It seems that as soon as I read a book, I start to notice its subject pop up all over the place!  For example, after reading the book called "Backbone: The Power of Saying No" which also talks about making requests, and speaking authentically... my eyes are enlightened to the many times every day when myself or others DO or DON'T have backbone.  In other words, when I put down the book, my reading has not ended, it only begins!  What I begin by reading, I must finish by living!
  • I have also noticed that I am more interested in people, and the conversations are more interesting!  Today I had a lunch appointment and my mind felt so alive, and it made for stimulating two way conversation full of ideas.
  • Also, even though its only been a week or two, It seems that this habit will indeed be an amazing healthy replacement to bad/neutral habits of "distraction" like facebook, internet surfing, espn, etc...       I am also finding overall that I am wasting less time!  I know that every minute counts if I am going to read even 1/2 a book a day, nevertheless a book a day!

Another note, I am being led (By God spirit in me :)) in terms of how I read each book.  Some books I am going to just read one time in one day, and never reread the book again.  On the other hand, some books that seem to be classics I am really intending to master!
For example, this last Napoleon Hill book - I read it in one day!  But the last few days I have been going back over my highlights and notes, and really letting the key thoughts soak in through mediation!

Also, I purchased two new awesome reading chairs from Mathis Brothers yesterday that have arrived today!

SO EXCITED!

God Bless!

Read and Grow Rich!!!

1. The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale - my first book!!!!

Ok last night I finished my first book!  This morning I also listened to the audio version of the same message!

Wow!

The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale - what a classic this is!

Yes, its a short book!  I need to read some short books in the beginning to build momentum!

Here is my book summary and bullet point notes:

This book was the First motivational spoken word album to sell 1 million copies.  It definitely paved the way for people like Zig Ziglar and Tony Robbins to follow afterwards.

The message of this book is both so simple yet so powerful.  Honestly, I don't know of a better 30min read than this book or audio.

I will do the 30 day challenge and I believe it will absolutely change my life.

I think the biggest thing I learned from reading the book is that I am incredibly powerful by using and directing the power of my focus/thoughts.  Its amazing to realize that everyday I am attracting my life circumstances by my thoughts.  Like Norman Vincent Peale was quoted, "Positive Thoughts will achieve Positive Results."

I do acknowledge that this book is almost useless or destructive without application.  So for the rest of this month I will "become what I think about" CONSCIOUSLY!

  • The opposite of courage is our society is not cowardness, it is conformity.
  • We get all busy competing with others.... really there is very little competition... we just need to focus on Creating... and we will be in a league of our own.
  • Marcus Aurelius said, "A Man's life is what his thoughts make of it"
  • This quote by Williams James becomes more and more powerful to me as I meditate on it: "We need only in cold blood act as if the thing in question was real and it will become infallibly real by growing into such connection with our life that it will become real.  It will become so knit with habit & emotion that our interest in it will be those which characterize belief."
  • Mark 9:23 Jesus taught, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."
  • Peale - "... if you think in negative terms, you'll get negative results.  If you think in positive terms, you will achieve positive results."
  • The Mind is like a Farm Land... it will return what you Plant.  Thoughts are like seeds.
  • People don't tend to value your consciously & gratefully utilize things like their mind....   why?  B/c it is free, we were born with it.   But this is sad b/c the great truth is that all truly valuable things in this life are free and equal to all.  Ex:  Mind, Body, True Love, etc...

6 Tips from Dr. Fink, a top psychiatrist M.D.
  1. Set a definite Goal (to direct "you become what you think about")
  2. Quit Running yourself Down
  3. Stop thinking of reasons why you can't, and start thinking of reasons why you can achieve something.
  4. Trace back things to your childhood....  become aware & break limiting patterns
  5. Write on a piece of paper the Image of yourself that you want.
  6. Act that part Now!

Implementation Plan:

I already made a notecard that summarizes the key thoughts.  My action plan is to do what it says!  For the rest of this month of December, multiple times per day, I am going to review the notes, but especially stop to apply "We become what we think about".  I wrote down my primary purpose in life, and my primary goal... I put it in a mission statement form, and I even wrote memory triggers of times in my life when I was living the way I want to live fully.  Each day I will stop for 5-10min and Picture in my minds eye myself being and living this desired way.  I will let myself feel the joy and success of living my dream life.  I will see myself constantly growing and improving, and living in this desired outcome.

I actually went for a walk and really thought about the 30 day challenge.  On a future blog entry I may share some of the person Definite Purpose I set for myself. :)

My 2013 Challenge

Read a book a day in 2013??

Really???

Yes!  I am going to read a book per day in 2013!  That means I am going to read over 365 books in 2013!

I am going to cheat only a bit - how?  I am going to start now in December of 2012!  I am going to get a head start!  That way I can survive the first month even though I am a slow reader.  I will learn to speed read though and will make it through the rest of the year!

What am I going to read?

Well, 365 books is a lot of books so I will read anything and everything to a certain degree.

I am going to really Master Read the books on my Kangen™ Hagen Team Book List!  These are about 25-50 books that are classics!
I am going to read a lot of people skills, relationships, compassion, and spirituality.
I am going to read Classic Literature and books to expand my vocabulary and world!
I am going to read Novels.
I will pour through the great biographies of leaders before me.
I already have 1000 books in my home library and on my kindle that I have not yet truly read or mastered!  It will be easy to do this!

The Specifics?

Here is the basic plan:

I am going to not just read, I am going to listen to audios, attend seminars, interview positive role models, and the core of my learn lifestyle will be to read!  I may journal on here about other things, but learning and reading will be the central topic.

The Rules are:

  • If its a Novel or Fiction book, I just need to have read and finished it.
  • If its a self help book I need to have showed that I have really received out of it.  I need to underline key statements, add comments on the book or on kindle, keep book journals to capture thoughts, and I need to create a blog summary of the book of what I learned from it.  The goal is not to just read the book... the good is to be changed by each book.  I want to read, apply, meditate, and really master each key book!  I will also probably post audio mp3 book summaries over time.
  • For the top 20 books I want to absolutely MASTER them!  I will read each of the top 20 books about 3-4 times each this year!
  • By the end of this year, someone could look at my kindle and book library (open up books, see my highlights & notes) and read my blog website and know that I have mastered these books.
  • I will read daily.  Some days I may read two books a day...   but my absolute minimum is to read at least one page everyday!  But my overall goal will be to read 1/2 a book a day in december, and then a book a day after that!

Why I am inspired to do this crazy task?

Here are a few of the reasons why I really want to do this!

  • I have always loved books and believed in the power of books to expand a person's thinking, and to create growth.  It's just that I feel I have never yet until now fully taken advantage of the amazing books I have and the ability I have to read them.
  • I just organized my library - I have amazing books but I can't say I have read them all!
  • I want to energize and feed my mind.
  • I want to grow physically, mentally, spiritually, in relationships, in skills, in business, and in impact!  Books can help me get there!
  • I just know that after even a week or month.. nevertheless a year... my entire thinking will be transformed and so will my emotional patterns and my life!
  • I get distracted easy and sometimes these distractions are not healthy or empowering.  I want an activity to fill in my free time or even be a healthy distraction!  I want to read and grow for pleasure... not just work!
  • I believe my business will absolutely explode in the process!  I don't think my profession as a health/fitness entrepreneur requires me to work doing presentations, talking, etc... more than 15 hours per week.  I think the key is to be full of passion, belief, energy, ideas, resources, knowledge, skills, character, compassion, people skill, positive attitude and emotion, and to act out of my potential!
  • I want to set the example for my friends and team!  We have a calling, opportunity, and assignment to become the Leaders necessary to lead a movement in true health... a movement in compassion through Kangen Water™.  It can be intimidating to think about needing to become a great leader until I remember that books are like the clay used to form amazing masterful leaders!
  • I have read books like Read and Grow Rich, and Read for Your Life!  They have inspired me in the past to read voraciously, but now I want it even more!
  • My key motivation is just to create new thoughts, change, and variety in my life!  I don't want to think the thoughts of yesterday, I want new and better thoughts!

How am I going to pull this off?  How will I find or make time?

I think I just want a challenge that relates to self-improvement!  If I were to count the hours from 2010, 2011, and 2012 - I really already have the time.  I have spend an average of 3-5 hours per day surfing the net, on sports websites, reading something, watching videos, and especially being on Facebook!
I am just going to take that time and direct it to reading!

Plus, I believe I will get so much new mental emotional energy that I will require less sleep!

So basically I am going to take facebook time, internet surfing time, and excess sleep time.... and just switch it over!  It will be EASY once the habits are changed around!

Because of the Blessing of my Enagic Kangen Water™ Business mhagen.yourbodyiswater.info I don't have a job and I have way more free time than most people with a passive income stream from a wonderful health team!

My plan is to read constantly!  I am going to read every free moment I have.  I am going to read while eating, exercising, waiting, before bed, while shaving, etc....

I will read about 15 books in december which will get my mental muscles strong, get my reading speed up, and give me a head start!

My standard will be to stay ahead!  That means that if I am on day 90 of the year, I will have read over 90 books already!  I will not fall behind!
